On the other hand, the AAP government in Delhi is also opposing the new Metro fares and launched its "Metro Fare Satyagraha" against the hike, at Metro stations across the city.

The disruption of the services did not go down well with the commuters as one of them took to Twitter and slammed the DMRC over the recent fare hikes. The protests by the two parties continued for the second day on Thursday with Delhi Congress unveiling a "Save Metro Rath" while AAP members organizing protests outside various metro stations.

AAP leaders, including Delhi Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam, were later detained and removed from the area by police, the AAP said. The protest gathered attention not only of metro users but also of those traveling by road. "Delhi metro has become the lifeline of the people".

"Now, I am unable to make out who actually raised the metro fares", he said. The metro users have to pay twice more than what they used to pay earlier. A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer said the incident occurred around 7.40 a.m.at Mewala Maharajpur Metro station.

Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri told the Delhi Government that it would need to pay Rs3, 000 crore annually for five years if it wanted to stop the metro fare hike. Its fourth phase protest will continue till October 18.
