Wolverines on upset alert against Air Force

Despite being 0-of-5 on third down conversions, the Falcons have still found a way to hang around.

MI kicker Quinn Nordin tied a school record with five field goals as the Wolverines knocked off Army 29-13.

Seventh-ranked MI looks to work through its growing pains when it hosts Air Force on Saturday. MI managed to score just one touchdown against the Falcons, and the Wolverines really showed some warts trying to move the ball.

Speight was asked point-blank immediately after the game on the field on BTN about the red zone offense, and he didn't shy away from basically acknowledging that it's a serious problem.

That trend continued against Air Force, with the Wolverines getting inside the 20 on four occasions and still not scoring a touchdown.

Nordin's 35-yard field goal gave MI an early advantage. MI faces Purdue next. Sep.

The Falcons used 16 different ball carriers en route to racking up 457 yards on the ground in their Week 1 win over Virginia Military Institute. They haven't made a lot of mistakes, but they'll need to wake up their offense or the Falcons could pull off the upset.

The freshman receiver was taken off punt return duties last week after a couple of costly errors, one which resulted in a MI fumble. Wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones has a catch for 37 yards.

He had another punt return for 25 yards in the fourth quarter and also had his first two career receptions Saturday, totaling 52 yards. Wilton Speight isn't throwing an accurate enough ball, and the running game comes to a screeching halt.

MI quarterback Wilton Speight was never pulled from the game, but his day was far from impressive as the leader of a MI offense still trying to find itself three weeks into the season. He has completed just 54.5 percent of his passes this season and had some accuracy issues again on Saturday. He finished the game with 156 all-purpose yards. The final score belies the fact that the Falcons stayed within striking distance late into the fourth quarter and left the crowd in Ann Arbor concerned for an offense that has lacked creativity, explosive plays and the ability to finish drives.

After starting the season as Michigan's lead running back, sophomore Chris Evans received just five carries last week against Cincinnati, rushing for 15 yards.
