Vehicle careens into Boise crowd, sends 11 to hospital

The Boise Police Department says preliminary information indicates the driver accelerated rapidly and lost control while leaving the event, crashing into several pedestrians on the sidewalk.

Boise police spokeswoman Haley Williams said there were many with serious injuries, but no fatalities had been reported by late Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said an investigation is underway and the evidence will be sent to the prosecutor for "possible charges".

King said the show drew about 400 or 500 cars, but only about half remained when the crash occurred shortly before the show ended.

The driver, who is cooperating with police, has not been identified. Witness accounts earlier suggested the driver was ejected from the Porsche, but on video he is seen exiting the vehicle after it comes to rest on a sidewalk along Overland Road.

The Spectrum was the site of two events Saturday: Cars and Coffee, and Rock'N Roll Brews and BBQ.

"We do not have any information that this was an intentional act", Lebar said.

Overland Road is closed as officers investigate.

Speaking to the Idaho Statesman, Steven described seeing "one body after another going flying up in the air, and shoes flying everywhere, and cell phones. And after that it was sheer screaming".

"Preliminary information shows that the driver of a gray Porsche was accelerating rapidly as he left the auto show", police said. The rest were in private vehicles, he said.

He said a military medic who happened to be at the show was also helping those injured, including a man with a bad cut on his head. Hundreds showed up to view the unique cars on show and engage the drivers.

This was the last Cars and Coffee show of the season, according to the event's Facebook page.
