Town of Ramapo wants Amazon's proposed new headquarters

Amazon is based in Seattle but says it wants a second headquarters someplace else.

Amazon has said its "HQ2" would resemble its existing headquarters located north of Downtown Seattle that totals 8 million square feet, employs 40,000 workers and has generated an economic impact of $38 billion between 2010-2016 for the city.

Amazon is denying reports that Boston is pulling ahead in the $5 billion bid for its Amazon's new headquarters.

"Bloomberg is incorrect - there are no front-runners at this point".

Earlier this month, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced that the Seattle-based company is on the hunt for another US city to be home to a second Amazon head office. Criteria for their desired location includes a metropolitan area with more than 1 million people and urban or suburban locations with the potential to attract and retain strong technical talent.

City officials in Little Rock would like to see Amazon make Arkansas its second home.

The new headquarters would result in 50,000 new jobs, according to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, who tweeted in support of the deal. That city would get a $5 billion investment and 50,000 new jobs in 20 years.

Amazon is no stranger to MA, as it also has a corporate office in Cambridge, along with two Amazon Books in Dedham and Lynnfield, and three Amazon Pop-Up stores in Natick, Braintree and Peabody.
