Three MLB teams to extend netting following Yankee Stadium incident

A boy was struck on the head by a portion of Chris Carter's broken bat at Yankee Stadium on May 25, and a fan sitting beyond the first-base dugout was hit by a 105 miles per hour foul ball off the bat of Judge on July 25.

"Hope everything is alright with the little girl that got hit with the foul ball ... her thoughts are with us for a speedy recovery".

After a 2-year-old girl was hit by a hard foul ball, Seattle plans to extend netting for next season.

"I told him I'm basically going to call every day just to see how she's doing, " Frazier said before Friday's Yankees-Blue Jays series opener at Rogers Centre.

The Yankees said in a statement that, because of federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the only information they could release about the girl is that she received first aid at the stadium and was taken to a hospital. I hope she is all right. "Tough to be a part of, to be honest".

The game against the Minnesota Twins was stopped for four minutes, with some players holding back tears.

10 major league teams (including the Washington Nationals) have extended the protective netting to at least the far ends of both dugouts. Following several months of planning, the San Diego Padres announced today that they will install additional netting during the offseason at Petco Park that will extend to the end of each dugout.

The recommendations also include finding new "ways to educate their fans" on the dangers posed by batted balls and bats while sitting in field-level seats.

"I think 2018, that's too late", Frazier said. Rafael Espinal, who introduced legislation in May to require all New York City baseball stadiums to have protective netting all the way to the foul poles, said after Wednesday's episode that he would hold a public hearing on the issue on October 25.

Yahoo Sports reported Thursday only 10 of 32 Major League Baseball ballparks had extended safety netting to cover the area all the way to the front of both dugouts, per a 2015 Major League Baseball recommendation.

"He wanted to make sure I was OK, which was kind of insane to think", he said. He added that it was too risky that close to have kids and not any netting to protect them. "I think every stadium should have it", he said (via NJ.com), "but we're not at that point yet".

Outraged fans turned to Twitter to express their concern over the lack of safety netting.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said on Thursday that the league would once again discuss expanding netting.

The stadium fell silent as fans rushed to help the child. "I still have a knot in my stomach", he said.

Some teams have been concerned that fans would object to extended netting because it may obscure a clear view of the action on the field.
