Shootings leave 2 dead, multiple people injured

Police did not say if the shootings were connected. An ABC11 crew at the scene said other possible gunshot victims were taken to Duke hospital in a private vehicle.

It was the second shooting in the area within minutes, according to Glenn.

Police said they believe the shooting is narcotics related. In addition to the driver, the passenger was grazed by a bullet and is in the hospital and is alert, according to police.

Police said they responded to Albany Avenue and found four male victims in their late 20's lying in the street and sidewalk.

One victim was pronounced dead on the scene, and one had a serious eye injury and is now in extremely critical condition. She was later identified as 36-year-old Tequila Smith of Durham. Magwood also sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Neighbors said the home is occupied by different people now. The incident was categorized as a drive-by shooting by investigators.

In a letter to community leaders and obtained by The Hartford Courant, Bronin said the evidence "strongly suggests that these shootings were drug-related, as numerous individuals involved were in the narcotics trade, and most had criminal records".

A spokesman for Bronin confirmed that the letter was sent but did not want to comment.
