Reports of American church shooting leaving at least six injured

"Medical personnel are treating 8 wounded church goers shot at Burnett's Chapel Church of Christ", the Nashville Fire Department tweeted Sunday.

The severity of the injuries is not known.

Police said that at 11:15 a.m., police started receiving multiple calls first of shots fired and then of people shot in the church.

There is no word on a motive and authorities have not released any additional information. The church is about 30 minutes southeast of Nashville. The surrounding area was closed off as police conduct an investigation.

Roads around the church are shut down, including LaVergne Couchville Pike off Old Hickory Blvd., and Hobson Pike.

In 2011, Spann almost died after suffering a heart attack while coaching the girls basketball team at the high school, according to the Nashville City Paper. They said of the other five percent, some would have died on the way to the hospital. "I am so fortunate".
