REAL MADRID star Marcelo has signed a new contract at the La Liga giants to stay at the club until at least 2022.

Marcelo has turned out for Real on 414 occasions over the past decade, and has scooped up 17 titles during that time including four La Liga triumphs and three Champions League trophies.

His contract extension comes right as the 29-year-old received a two-match suspension after being handed a red card against Levante on Saturday. As such, Marcelo will be unavailable for the trip to Real Sociedad this weekend and the visit of Betis on September 20.

Marcelo has been included in the squad for Real's game against Cypriot champions APOEL Nicosia on Wednesday as they begin their quest to become the first side to win three successive Champions League competitions in its current format.
