Pogba limps out of United game in first half

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that valuable midfielder Marouane Fellaini is a doubt for Tuesday night's game against Basel as Champions League football returns to United's schedule for the first time since an early group stage exit in 2015.

As Man United returned to the UEFA Champions League after an absence of nearly two years, Pogba captained the side in his debut for the club in Europe's elite competition.

Paul Pogba left Old Trafford on crutches following Manchester United's 3-0 Champions League win over Basel on Tuesday after being forced off with a hamstring injury.

"I just know from experience it's a muscular injury", Mourinho said.

"I don't know (what the severity is)", Mourinho told MUTV, the club's in-house television station.

'If Lindelof has to play in the Premier League I have no problem with that, ' said Mourinho.

"It looks for me too [like a hamstring injury] but I haven't spoken yet to the medical department".

Paul Pogba captains the Red Devils alongside Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park, with Victor Lindelof handed an opportunity in the centre of defence next to Chris Smalling. The Brazilian impressed during pre-season, but did not make the match day squad for any of United's first three games.

In the meantime, United have five games remaining in September in one of the busiest periods of the season, and Mourinho will be looking to his alternative midfield options to get him through it.

"So we need this and in the Premier League and the Champions League I have to choose the players in relation to the quality".

"To play my first match at Old Trafford is something I have really waited for".
