Olympic Games: Paris in 2024 and Los Angeles in 2028

Los Angeles is proud to be a three-time Olympics host and to be part of the Olympic movement, Gene Sykes, CEO of LA 2028, Los Angeles' Olympic organising committee.

SNCF sent a message to its customers in light the of successful bid, stating that it is "pleased to announce that the International Olympic Committee has just awarded the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games to the City of Paris".

IOC President Thomas Bach embraced both cities' mayors on stage after a unanimous show of hands by IOC members ratified the awards.

The Californian city will welcome the Olympic Games for a third time, after also playing host in 1932 and 1984, and the Paralympic Games for the first time. The Parade is celebrating the fact that Los Angeles has officially benn awarded the 2028 Olympics. This paved the way for Paris as the sole 2024 bidder to win the Games unopposed.

The French capital has set a relatively modest budget of 6.6 billion euros ($7.9 billion), but London in 2012, Athens in 2004 and Sydney in 2000 all saw their budgets for hosting the Summer Olympics at least double from the time of their bids to the final bill.

It is the first time the International Olympic Committee has awarded a Games 11 years in advance.

Both campaign teams summarized their bids in presentations at the 131st IOC Session in Lima, Peru, before the IOC voted to formally confirm the announcements.

The Los Angeles 2028 Games, with a budget of $5.3 billion, will essentially follow the plan they had in place for 2024, including housing athletes at the UCLA campus.

Global sports and entertainment design practice Populous and Egis, the Paris-based, worldwide consultancy, engineering and operation group, were chosen in 2016 to collaborate on the Paris 2024 bid, which was confirmed this week.

Bach added: "It is hard to imagine something better".

"I'm quite confident that we will have a very safe, very peaceful and harmonious Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang next year".

"I believe the Olympics is still a dream for a lot of people and it's a mystical event that happens every four years that you can try and compete in for a gold medal".

Public support for hosting the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles is overwhelming, even if it means waiting for eleven years, according to a survey conducted in July by Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, California.
