No Nougat for BlackBerry Priv, Says Company's Executive

No Nougat for BlackBerry Priv, Says Company's Executive

Bad news for Blackberry users.

Thurber revealed during the podcast that the BlackBerry Priv will not be getting the Android Nougat update. Coming with a secured OS with DTEK security, the BlackBerry Priv was updated from Android 5.0 Lollipop to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. While it is not confirmed whether DTEK devices i.e. the DTEK 60 and DTEK 50 will get an Android version update. However, he noted that was a massive undertaking which required getting the device partners on board and that it will be next to impossible to repeat for updates to Android 7.0 Nougat and beyond.

Priv users will likely be disappointed with this announcement, mainly because the handset received only one major OS upgrade since its launch. However, security updates will still be pushed out.

It isn't shocking, but BlackBerry has once again disappointed its customers by not bringing the anticipated Nougat update to its first full-fledged Android smartphone - the Priv.

This is why Thurber also confirmed that the KEYone would be receiving the Android Oreo update soon.

The Priv was debuted as a hybrid model by BlackBerry, with a curved-edge display and a physical slide-out keyboard.

The handset is armed with an 18-megapixel rear camera that comes with Schneider-Kreuznach optics, optical image stabilization, autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash light. A front-facing 2MP camera is there with f/2.8 aperture. It was powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808 and had 3GB of RAM - identical to the LG G4. You also get up to 2TB expandable storage using microSD card. No Nogat update sadly, but on a positive note, the device comes with added features like DTEK security and BlackBerry Hub.
