Man arrested in connection with Parsons Green bombing

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the blast, the militant group's Amaq news agency said Friday evening.

A hunt is on for the suspect who placed an improvised explosive device at the Parsons Green station.

Prime Minister Theresa May has raised the threat level to critical, meaning another attack is expected imminently.

Police announced the arrest in the Port-city of Dover Saturday; following an urgent manhunt for suspects connected to the terror attack. At least 29 passengers were injured, as several were burned and dozens attempted to escape unharmed.

The Met's head of national counter terrorism policing, Mark Rowley, added that the independent Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre has raised the UK's threat level from worldwide terrorism to critical.

Deputy Assistant Police Commissioner Neil Basu called the arrest "significant", but cautioned that the investigation into the attack was ongoing and that the threat level in the United Kingdom remains "critical".

The attack was the latest in a series in terror attacks in London this year, including the Westminster Bridge attack in March, and the London Bridge attack in April. "The public should remain vigilant as our staff, officers and partners".

British media reported that the crude device, carried in a bucket and shoved into a shopping bag, had a timer, suggesting that some degree of bombmaking knowledge was employed.

Basu said the force was not changing its "protective security measures", adding that steps were still being taken to free up extra armed officers.

"The Metropolitan Police Service and British Transport Police attended the scene, along with colleagues from the London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service".

The man's name is not being released at this point, but detectives have spoken with 45 witnesses and received over 75 images and investigators.
