First Interview! Maddox Jolie-Pitt Says Mom Angelina Is 'A Wonder'

Speaking on the red carpet of the Toronto International Film Festival, the Oscar-winning actress said that her 16-year-old son, who was adopted from Cambodia, "impressed" her with his dedication to the craft while working on the movie about the Cambodian genocide.

Last week the star told The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline that she will return to acting after a one year break to spend time with her kids after her September 2016 split from Brad Pitt. "They are going through their formative years and everything else comes second to that". "It's very, very hard, a very painful situation, and I just want my family healthy", Jolie said.

"They're six very strong-minded, thoughtful, worldly individuals", she said.

Almost a year after splitting from husband Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and her six children are still picking up the pieces of their once seemingly flawless life.

"I was able to say, you have a job, get over here, help me with this..." "I haven't worked for over a year now because they needed me home". "He goes back and forth [to Cambodia] a lot, but this would be over four months of just being in the country, really reading, listening, learning and absorbing all things about his culture and country [including] the very, very dark parts". "And that's O.K., because I know who I am, and the kids know who I am".

She added that her children are her best friends and she is proud of how they have "strong voices" and are "empathetic people" but can still be 'goofy'.

She said, "When I first read it, it really affected me, but I didn't think of making a film..."

It's particularly important that they learn about their own background from a culturally relevant perspective, she said.

"Everything will be around the children", she says.

"We homeschool and I'm very very aware of their education, mostly very aware of what's lacking". It is believed filming will begin before the end of the year.
