China opposes DPRK's missile launch: FM

Guterres will be discussing the situation on the Korean Peninsula, with all concerned parties in the margins of the upcoming high level week of the UN General Assembly.

"China opposes DPRK ballistic missile launches against the UN Security Council resolutions", Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said.

UNITED NATIONS:The UN Security Council condemned "the highly provocative launch of a ballistic missile" by North Korea and expressed commitment to a peaceful, diplomatic and political solution to the crisis.

"Our kababayans (countrymen) in Japan must closely monitor the Embassy's announcements and to update information on their whereabouts and contact details with the embassy or Consulate General", he said.

Also today, holding urgent consultations over the ballistic missile launch, the Security Council expressed its grave concern that the DPRK is, by conducting such a launch over Japan as well as its recent actions and public statements, deliberately undermining regional peace and stability and causing grave security concerns around the world.

"Currently the situation on the Korean Peninsula is complex, sensitive and serious".

The North has confirmed the missile as an intermediate range Hwasong-12, the same model launched over Japan on August 29.

He also ordered the South Korean military to prepare for new forms of attacks from North Korea, such as electromagnetic pulse weapons and biochemical weapons. On Thursday North Korea threatened to "sink Japan" with its nuclear missiles and also to reduce the US mainland "to ashes".

"We again call on the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) to cease its provocative and highly risky actions that threaten the peace, stability, and security of the region", said Philippine Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano in a statement on Saturday, September 16.
