Almost 1.9 million still without power in US Southeast after Irma

Keep in mind the company never asks for special payments to restore power and they will not refuse to reconnect service to those impacted by Irma due to a past due bill. "You have our commitment we will not rest until everyone has their power back".

Florida Power & Light officials earlier this week said that most customers on Florida's east coast would have their electricity restored by Sunday evening.

Almost a million customers lost power during one of the strongest and largest tropical systems to hit Georgia in decades. But this does not include places with severe flooding or tornado damage, he said, and those areas could face a longer wait before the lights returned.

"According to the Governor there is just a tonne of debris on the streets, we know boats were really flown in onto the roads, people can't get past it".

About 310,000 of Tampa Electric's 700,000 customers were estimated to have lost power in the wake of Irma, president and CEO Gordon Gillette told CNBC Monday.

"Right now FPL.com is up".

Georgia Power reported 870,000 customers without electricity Tuesday morning, which is roughly half of their residential customer base. Call 911 for life-threatening emergencies.

Since Frances, Jeanne and Wilma, FPL has spent more than $2 billion strengthening its system against storms. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office in Georgia said it was investigating a woman who was killed when a tree fell on her vehicle.

With Irma, the poles seemed to hold up well against the wind, he said.

FPL says that 19,500 workers, including contractors and employees, are working to restore power to affected users.

About 1.5 million homes and businesses in Florida and Georgia remained without power on Friday after Hurricane Irma, including 46 of Florida's almost 700 nursing homes caught in the deadly storm's path.

"Unfortunately, there has been false information spread that FPL will reimburse customers for food losses as a result of Hurricane Irma".

FPL has begun restoring power in multiple locations.

Millions of people in Florida and other southeastern states, along with Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands, remain without power, making Hurricane Irma the worst weather-related power outage in U.S. history, according to estimates.

In Charlotte County, restoration work is more than 80 percent complete. They may be electrified by a downed line out of sight and conduct electricity over great distances.

While sewage and water service are still reportedly working in many areas hit by Irma, a number of Florida communities are under mandatory orders to boil their water, including the cities of Hollywood and Pembroke Pines - and all of the Florida Keys.

Even when winds have subsided, conditions can be risky.

Officials said up to a quarter of the homes in the Keys were destroyed. All substations and 1K+ main power lines restored.
