Abe, Moon join hands to carry out sanctions against N. Korea

"We've been kicking the can down the road, and we're out of road", H.R. McMaster, Trump's national security adviser, told reporters on Friday.

Up until recently, U.S. assurances to Japan and South Korea have been enough to keep both Seoul and Tokyo closely aligned with Washington in their responses to the North Korean threat.

White House aides say his address, to be given to heads of state and government or their representatives, is still being written and topics could change.

The UN Security Council today strongly condemned "highly provocative" launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea and demanded that the reclusive nation immediately halt such "outrageous" actions.

North Korea fired a missile Friday over Japan, its second launch over the country since Trump threatened in August to unleash "fire and fury" against Pyongyang if acts of aggression continued. Facing an escalating nuclear threat from North Korea and the mass flight of minority Muslims from Myanmar, world leaders gather at the United Nations starting Monday, Sept. 18 to tackle these and other tough challenges _ from the spread of terrorism to a warming planet.

Haley confirmed that she has seen Trump's speech already.

As a presidential candidate he called North Atlantic Treaty Organisation obsolete and, as president, during a visit to the alliance headquarters in Brussels, he shocked USA allies by failing to underscore his commitment to their mutual defense.

Haley said that the United Nations has "strangled their economic situation at this point" but the results of that are going to "take a little time but it has always tried to take effect". The US must follow through on Defence Secretary Mattis's much needed "iron-clad" guarantees to Japan and South Korea by reinforcing America's military presence in the region.

"He slaps the right people, he hugs the right people and he comes out very strong in the end", US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said on Friday as she previewed Trump's speech for the Tuesday assembly.

The luncheon meeting is schedule to be held on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly session in NY.

On Tuesday, he will meet Qatar's emir, and on Wednesday, he will meet with leaders from Jordan, the Palestinian Authority, the United Kingdom, and Egypt, McMaster said.

"In her own way she spells out the "America First" agenda, but she has not been hostile to the United Nations", he said.

"I don't even think if he walked up with remarks that we would know what he'd say". And for those who have said and been commenting on the lack of a military option - there is a military option.

"I think what the president was saying is that all of our law enforcement efforts are focused on this terrorist threat for years", he said.

"I personally think he slaps the right people, he hugs the right people, and he comes out with [the] US being very strong in the end", she said.
