Scaramucci on Trump Charlottesville statement: The president

President Donald Trump revealed the name he calls his new chief of staff John Kelly, The Hill reported Friday.

Scaramucci suggested that Trump's statement can be blamed, at least in part, on "this sort of "Bannon-bart" influence" in the White House - a reference to Trump's white nationalist strategist Steve Bannon and the website Breitbart, which Bannon used to run. One person died when a auto plowed into a crowd.

He said the "toleration of [white supremacy] by Steve Bannon is inexcusable".

Lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle have called out Trump's apparent reluctance to specifically mention the white supremacist groups who gathered in Charlottesville for a "Unite the Right" rally.

"Here's the thing: Whether I was the White House communications director or not, I don't think you're gonna change the president. I think there are elements inside of Washington, also inclusive in the White House, that are not necessarily abetting the president's interests or his agenda", Scaramucci said in the air of ABC News.

But the Charlottesville mayor, Michael Signer, laid much of the blame for the violence directly at the president's feet, saying, in an impassioned appearance on CBS, that Trump had created an atmosphere of "coarseness, cynicism, [and] bullying".

"I think he needed to be much harsher as it relates to the white supremacists", Scaramucci said on ABC's "This Week". "I think you're seeing a direct line from what happened this weekend to those choices". Republicans and Democrats immediately criticised Trump's lacklustre condemnation.

"I really did get a directive from the president".

The White House did not immediately comment on Scaramucci's suggestion about Bannon.

He added, "It's actually terrorism".

Scaramucci's frustration with Bannon was put on full display last month after New Yorker reporter Ryan Lizza published an article detailing an expletive-laced phone conversation he had with Scaramucci.

Scaramucci has been a vocal critic of Bannon and offered a cryptic response when asked if Bannon should go.
