Police release CCTV of 83-year-old dog walker stabbed to death

The man, in his 20s, was arrested this morning by detectives probing the death of Mr Wrighton, whose body was found in woodland near East Harling a week ago today.

A man has been arrested over the fatal stabbing of an 83-year-old dog walker in Norfolk woods, police said.

He had been repeatedly stabbed in his neck and head, post-mortem examination tests showed.

He was believed to be wearing heavy-rimmed glasses and light-coloured pants, and was seen in The Street changing into a white t-shirt.

The person who discovered the body initially thought he had been attacked by his dogs Dylan and Gemma, who were found near his body. He then drove his red Skoda 4.5 miles to The Street, close to the area where he walked his dogs.

"When we think of Peter we remember him with fond and happy memories that will stay with us always".

He loved walking his two dogs and chatting with people he met, they said in a statement.

Detective Superintendent Andy Smith said: "We have already heard from more than 220 people but we will be exploring all avenues in our enquiries and we are still keen to hear from more".

Police on Saturday announced a young man from the local area has been detained in connection with the case. "I would ask people to remain vigilant and to contact us if they see anything suspicious".

He wore a grey or blue t-shirt, grey floppy gym-style shorts above the knee and heavy duty flip flops, and was seen within the boundary of the woodland site which police are searching.
