Pakistan resorts to heavy firing and shelling along LoC in J&K

A woman and an army JCO were killed on Saturday in unprovoked breach of the LoC ceasefire by Pakistani soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, officials said.

"They resorted to indiscriminate firing from automatic weapons towards army posts and civilian areas in along LoC in Poonch district from 5.15 am".

A lady was killed when Pakistan damaged truce in Jammu and Kashmir's Mendhar part at 5:30 am on Saturday.

Another soldier is reported to have been injured in Pakistan army's indiscriminate firing in the same sector. "The Pakistani troops also resorted to mortar shelling", he said.

Indian Army personnel guarding the border posts retaliated strongly and effectively. On August 8, Sepoy Pawan Singh Sugra (21) was killed in unprovoked Pakistani firing.

Till August 1 this year, there have been 285 instances of ceasefire violation by the Pakistani troops.

Earlier in the day, a 40-year-old woman was killed in Gohlad Kalran village after the Pakistani army resorted to indiscriminate firing for almost one-and-a-half-hour. Shabir at Gohlad Kalran village, killing his wife Raqia Bi, a police officer said.

According to reports cross border firing and shelling was going on when reports last came in. The cross-border firing often leads to the deaths of soldiers and civilians on either side.
