Gibson to be South Africa's next head coach?

A lack of runs this summer - Hameed averages 19 in the Championship - meant he was overlooked for this series against South Africa.

"Ottis is someone who has obviously had a lot of worldwide experience. We will not listen to any approaches until after the current series has concluded", the European Central Bank said in a statement.

England denied any formal approach had been made for the 48-year-old Bajan, who previously coached his native West Indies and is in his second spell in the European Central Bank set-up, but it seems highly likely that picture will change next week.

England and South Africa will tussle for control of the fourth Investec Test on Saturday, before attentions turn to a battle for Ottis Gibson's services.

Incumbent head coach Domingo has reapplied for the position but the indications has been that CSA would opt to employ Highveld Lions coach Geoffrey Toyana. However, Domingo who has headed the side for 4 years has re-applied for the role.

However, no intimation has been received to European Central Bank from CSA regarding Gibson and they have assured no movement will take place until the end of the ongoing England-South Africa Test series. He is now in the second year of his second stint as England's bowling coach. Gibson had spent six seasons of his playing career in South Africa and is most likely to move to South Africa again if appointed as head coach.

The contract of Russell Domingo, South Africa's current coach, runs out at the end of this series and it is understood Gibson has already been chosen to replace him. It would be disrespectful of us to talk about his position.

"We've obviously heard the news tonight but I promise you we have had nothing official".

England's only success in an away series in the past 30 years came back in 2010-11 when they had an Australian bowling coach in David Saker in their set-up.

CSA has said that a final decision will be announced after the England series, which ends on August 8. He is still without a half-century in the series, with only three Tests after this until the Ashes starts in Brisbane on November 23.

"Losing Ben Stokes in the last five minutes was disappointing".
