Barcelona target Dembele remains suspended by Dortmund

Dembele joined Dortmund a little over 12 months ago from Rennes on a five-year contract and scored 10 times in 49 appearances in all competitions last season.

The France global is a target for the Catalans, along with Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, as they aim to find a replacement for Neymar following his £200m move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Dortmund are holding out for a bid of around €135 million for Dembele and on Sunday they have confirmed that he wouldn't be returning to squad training in the short-term future.

"Our focus now is on the preparations for our season opener at Wolfsburg next weekend", sporting director Michael Zorc said.

Ousmane Dembele has had his suspension extended by Borussia Dortmund until further notice as he continues to be unsettled by interest from Barcelona. Chelsea must spend, spend, spend!

And the 20-year-old was absent from training without permission on Thursday, with Dortmund head coach Peter Bosz telling a news conference the club had been unable to contact Dembele.

Their CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, then indicated that Dortmund are not ruling out a sale, with the Bundesliga club reported to be seeking a fee of at least €130m.

"Ousmane Dembele has the possibility to do individual training off the group".

Speaking about Dembele after Saturday's victory, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was also been linked with a move away from Signal Iduna Park during the off-season, expressed that his team-mate is in a tough spot. "Whatever happens, happens. It's a hard situation".
