Arsenal Outfoxes Leicester City In Tremendous EPL Opener

Ozil and Ramsey missed the Gunners' penalty shootout victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield with ankle and calf injuries, respectively, while Mertesacker suffered a head injury during the game against the Blues and was substituted in the first-half.

"At one stage I opened the door for him as I knew I had many strikers, and in the end he made a decision to stay", said Wenger.

An admiring Wenger said Giroud was "in his prime" and "at the top of his game".

"Lacazette can integrate well into the game we want to play with his movement, combination, technical quality and efficiency", Wenger told Sky Sports.

It's only the second time in eight seasons that Arsene Wenger's side have secured three points in their opening fixture.

The Premier League is back baby!

He enjoyed a quieter season past year as Leicester finished in mid-table and - despite his new contract - has once again angled for a move away.

More news: Opening-day woe for Leicester

Key Player: Alexandre Lacazette - There is pressure on Arsenal's marquee signing to score the goals to push them towards the title. In the following minutes, the hosts tried to tighten their defence and get back on their front foot, keeping Leicester's goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel on his toes.

Within three minutes Leicester were level. It's no doubt going to spoil all of us because the rest of the games are going to suck by comparison.

Granit Xhaka's sloppy pass was picked up by Albrighton and he forged down the left flank before bending a sublime cross into the danger area that Vardy converted. Buckets of goals, wild defensive irresponsibility, Arsenal frailty and Arsenal fortitude (apparently it's a thing) - we feel confident saying it was the most entertaining match of the season so far.

Danny Welbeck levelled for Arsenal, but Vardy's second goal looked to have won it for Leicester until the sensational finale.

Again a set-piece proved Arsenal's undoing as Mahrez's in-swinging corner from the right was nodded in by Vardy.

The moves paid off, with Ramsey equalizing in the 83rd minute and Giroud sending the Emirates crowd home ecstatic with a goal two minutes later to give Arsenal a lead that they would not give up, earning the Gunners three points and a short-lived stint at the top of the table before the rest of the league kicks off this weekend.
