Madrid closing in on record-busting deal for Mbappe

Monaco have denied reaching an agreement with Real Madrid over a world-record deal for Kylian Mbappe, according to reports.

"These are things that people outside the club talk about", he said when asked about Mbappe at a media conference on Tuesday.

The Monaco vice-president was quoted as saying by Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws: "We have no agreement with Real Madrid or any other club over Kylian Mbappe".

The 18-year-old scored 26 goals and assisted another 14 strikes in all competitions for Monaco last season, and was voted Ligue 1's Young Player of the Season.

Reports on Wednesday also suggested Manchester City have no interest in pursuing a deal for the striker, but boss Pep Guardiola remains bullish.

Yesterday it was reported in Spain that Real Madrid had made their highly anticipated move for Mbappe and a £161 million fee had been agreed.

That would leave Benzema out in the cold and the newspaper is citing a report from Don Balon that claims the French worldwide will be sold once Madrid wrap-up their deal for Mbappe.

Mbappe had concerns over playing time and finding favour with Real's coach Zinedine Zidane, and the departure of striker Morata would certainly ease his mind. Real's offer may require the sale of further players to fund the move.

Bale experienced an injury-hit season last year, but it could be argued Madrid looked better without the 28-year-old in the side.

The Ligue 1 champions have also threatened to get Federation Internationale de Football Association involved after accusing unnamed clubs of making unauthorised approaches for the player. "We changed not just for the short term but for the next four, five, six years". Mbappe lit up the French league and the UEFA Champions League with his electrifying performances.
