Ruet-e-Hilal Committee sights moon, Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday

The observance made a comeback nearly 200 years later, when then-First Lady Hillary Clinton in 1996 threw an Eid al-Fitr reception for about 150 people. Eid al-Fitr doesn't have any historical links; instead, the celebrations focus on the community and family, and a spirit of generosity is encouraged.

In Pakistan, Eid al-Fitr holidays last three days while Indians get just one day for Eid al-Fitr.

Astronomical calculations had already revealed that Eid al-Fitr 2017 in India would fall on Monday.

Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the fasting month of Ramadan, will be celebrated in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Monday as the moon of "Shawwal" was sighted on Sunday.

Summary: Hyderabad: The Moon of "Shawwal" has been sighted in Hyderabad.

The festival is a chance to relax after a month of abstaining from eating, drinking and other pleasures from dawn until sunset in order to improve moral character. The day begins with a prayer service, and ends with a celebration.

The White House issued a statement on late Saturday evening.

Moon Sighting Committees and religious authorities in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunie, Japan, Australia and New Zealand have also declared Sunday June 25 as the first day of Eid.

"On behalf of the American people, Melania and I send our warm greetings to Muslims as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr", Trump said in a statement.

Reports from London said new moon could not be sighted anywhere in United Kingdom on Saturday. "We kind of go through the 30 days of fasting, so this is kind of like a celebratory day".

This means Indian Muslims, like their counterparts in Saudi Arabia, would have observed 29 fasts this year.
