Saudi Arabia has itself been accused of supporting extremist organisations, but it fiercely opposes interests like the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran, which enjoy support from Qatar.

According to the list, Qatar must refuse to naturalise citizens from the four countries and "revoke Qatari citizenship for existing nationals where such citizenship violates those countries' laws".

"Re-evaluating the base agreement with Qatar is not on our agenda".

Moreover, the mere notion of shuttering al-Jazeera - and its multiple affiliates - was deemed out of the question.

The Iran provisions in the document say Qatar must shut down diplomatic posts in Iran, kick out from Qatar any members of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard, and only conduct trade and commerce with Iran that complies with USA and global sanctions.

Qatar supported the calls for change resulting from the 2011 Arab Spring protests that led to upheaval in Egypt, Syria and other Middle East nations, and the network intensively covered those protests.
