Pelosi facing party mutiny in the House

Pelosi's office claims even loftier triumphs, saying she's raised more than $500 million for Democrats since entering the party leadership in the early 2000s, including $141.5 million in the 2015-2016 cycle.

"So", she said, "we are paving a way for a new generation of leadership".

"As long as Leader Pelosi is perceived as the leader of the House Democratic Caucus", Vela said, "Republicans are going to continue to spend millions and millions of dollars in those swing districts to convince those swing voters, those independent voters - those Republican voters who might go our way - not to vote for our Democratic candidate because of Leader Pelosi".

Yesterday one New York Times reporter tweeted out some talking points circulated by Pelosi aides to House allies.

But it's also clear that many Democrats in the House, if not the large majority, don't see it that way.

Said Rice: "The Republican playbook has been very successful".

The National Republican Congressional Committee ran ads charging Ossoff would "represent Nancy Pelosi".

Pelosi said that would be fine with her.

"With Hollywood elites and Nancy Pelosi bankrolling his campaign, it's no secret that Ossoff would rubber stamp Pelosi's failed agenda of bigger government and more spending", Corey Bliss, executive director of the GOP-friendly Congressional Leadership Fund, said just before the Georgia election. "I thrive on competition", she said, later adding: "I think I'm worth the trouble".

Frozen out of power in Washington and having lost a string of congressional races this year, Democrats are struggling to craft winning strategies to convert disillusionment with President Donald Trump into victory in 2018's midterm elections.

"I'd like to keep her right where she is, because our record is extraordinary against her", Trump said in a Fox News interview.

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Thursday, Ryan called the Democratic brand "toxic" and addressed his party's losses in special elections this week, particularly in the sixth district of Georgia, where Republican candidate Karen Handel and outside groups supporting her bid repeatedly tied her Democratic opponent Jon Ossoff to Pelosi.

When the top post among House Democrats might open up, though, Pelosi hasn't said.
