Nevada Republican Senator Wavers On Health Care Bill

What can tip Obamacare into collapse isn't any inevitable weaknesses, but President Donald Trump's continuing threats to withhold said subsidies. The nuts and bolts of legislation and the maddening, unpredictable ways and rhythms of Congress can seem foreign to him. He joined with a trio of Senate conservatives on Thursday who say they're open to negotiation but can't support Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's bill as it is.

"It's hard for me to see the bill passing this week", Collins told ABC's "This Week". This means that those with a break in coverage would need to wait a half-year before they would be eligible to purchase an individual market health insurance plan.

But White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Friday said President Trump is "committed to making sure that no one who now is in the Medicaid program is affected in any way, which is reflected in the Senate bill, and he's pleased with that".

Wolf's administration said the effect means the loss of billions of federal health care dollars annually to Pennsylvania.

While tax credits under the ACA were based on helping people afford a bad silver plan with large deductibles (roughly $3,500), the Senate plan will only help people afford a awful bronze plan with massive deductibles (roughly $6,000).

Senator Bill Cassidy, who is still studying the proposal and has not yet decided how he will vote, said in several television interviews it was a good beginning.

With the Fourth of July holiday looming, Republican leaders in the U.S. Senate are pushing for a vote on their proposal to replace the Affordable Care Act with their own version of a health care law. "It hands enormous tax cuts to the rich and to the drug and insurance industries, paid for by cutting health care for everybody else". If they make it better for moderates, the conservatives will peel off.

But the Senate is even more complicated and Trump's lack of interest in the nitty-gritty details of legislation is a liability. Yet the measure will live or die in the Senate on Republican support. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private calls.

The legislation would phase out extra federal money that more than 30 states receive for expanding Medicaid to additional low-income earners. Now, with the Senate on the brink of repealing the law, he's one of the surprise holdouts threatening to block the bill.

The White House said it is hopeful a final bill will be finished before lawmakers leave Washington later this summer.

Trump tweeted Thursday evening that he is "very supportive" of the health care bill crafted by Senate Republican leadership, departing from an earlier more cautious approach by his White House communications team. "I think there's a bill that all 52 Republicans agree on if they keep narrowing the focus".

Trump helped House leaders corral votes, but his ability to move more difficult-to-influence senators is untested.

Underscoring the sensitivity of the bill, Sen. Both our senators are included in the elite 13 GOP senators working in complete secrecy to produce this bill.

"If they do to Medicaid what they're trying to do, it's not just a health care adverse outcome, we will be a different country, we'll be a different society, because we won't be taking care of people that most of us believe we should take care of", Casey told reporters in the Pennsylvania Capitol after he led a rally against the bill.
