Accident reported involving military plane at Ohio air show

Emergency response personnel rushed to a runway at the Dayton International Airport in OH after a "mishap" involving a fighter jet practicing for an air show.

The Wright Patterson Air Force Base said its firefighters responded alongside the airport's fire and rescue team.

The Journal-News reports that two people are trapped in the plane.

A decision on whether to go forward with plans for the show in Dayton on Saturday has not been made.

An F-16D used by the famous Air Force Thunderbirds aerobatic team on Friday ran off the runway and overturned while preparing for an OH air show, sending two airmen to the hospital.

The Daily News is reporting that both occupants have been able to exit the F-16's wreckage; their conditions are unknown. The Thunderbirds were to headline the Vectren Dayton Air Show in June 2013, but the Air Force grounded the unit because of funding cuts related to sequestration.

Authorities say a military jet apparently practicing for an OH air show was involved in an accident. He is a 2008 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and has logged more than 1,600 hours as a military pilot.

Officials say the plane sustained damage and "more details will be released following an aircraft investigation and safety investigation board". Cordova was released from the hospital sometime Friday night.

The United States Air Force Thunderbirds were conducting a single-ship familiarization flight on Friday June 23, 2017.

The passenger in the plane was Sgt. Kenneth Cordova of Littleton.
